Tiny houses have become increasingly popular in recent years. They are used as summer cottages, guest houses, home offices and holiday homes, but there is also an increasing question about whether a tiny house can be comfortably lived in all year round.

The short answer is: yes, you canBut the prerequisite for this is that the house has been designed and built from the beginning for year-round use.

Our Cube Houses are all built for year-round use!

A small house doesn't have to mean a summer house

When people think of a tiny house, they still think of a simple summer house that is used mainly during the warmer months. In fact, a properly built tiny house can be the equivalent of a conventional residence.

What is important is not so much the size of the house, but its construction, insulation, windows, ventilation, and heating solution.

If all these details are thought out correctly, a tiny house can be comfortably lived in both summer and the coldest winter months.

Insulation is one of the most important things for a year-round tiny house

In the Estonian climate, a house intended for year-round use must be able to keep warm well.

Proper insulation helps reduce heat loss and makes the indoor climate of the house more stable. This means that the house stays warm in winter and the room does not overheat as quickly in summer.

In a small house, the effect of good insulation can be particularly noticeable, because there is little surface area to heat. A properly built small house can therefore be very energy efficient. At Cube Houses, we use polyurethane foam, which ensures particularly good thermal insulation.

Smaller space often means lower costs

One of the biggest advantages of a tiny house is its smaller surface area.

If, for example, 20–40 square meters need to be heated, rather than 100 or 150 square meters, the energy requirement is generally lower.

This could mean:

  • lower heating costs;
  • lower electricity bills;
  • less maintenance;
  • lower daily fixed costs.

Therefore, a well-planned tiny house can be a good solution for someone who wants their own home but does not need a large living space.

The right heating solution makes living in a tiny house comfortable

Even a small house can be equipped with all modern conveniences.

Depending on the size and purpose of the house, you can use, for example, underfloor heating, an air-source heat pump, or other heating solutions.

Since there is less space, the desired temperature is often reached quite quickly. However, it is important that the heating system is selected according to the specific house and the building structure is sufficiently energy efficient. Cube Houses are available with underfloor heating, air-source heat pumps and even a fireplace.

Ventilation should not be forgotten

A warm house is not enough for a good indoor climate.

Humidity and carbon dioxide build up faster in a small space than in a large house, which is why proper ventilation is especially important.

Properly designed ventilation helps keep the air fresh, reduce excess humidity, and make living in a tiny house comfortable even if you are there every day.

Is 20–30 square meters really enough?

It depends on the person and their lifestyle.

For one or two people, a well-planned 20–30 m² house can be perfectly adequate. If every square meter is used thoughtfully, a small house can feel much more spacious than the number on paper initially suggests.

Planning plays an important role here.

An open kitchen-living room, large windows, practical storage spaces and multifunctional furniture help make the most of the space.

A larger terrace can act as a second living room in warmer weather and make the possibilities of using a small house even wider.

Who is a year-round tiny house suitable for?

A year-round tiny house can be a good choice for a wide variety of people.

It is suitable, for example, as a first home, for a couple or a person living alone, as a smaller retirement home, or as a separate house to an existing residence.

Tiny houses are also increasingly used in the hospitality industry, where it is important to offer visitors comfortable accommodation regardless of the season.

A big advantage of a tiny house is flexibility – the same house can fulfill very different roles throughout its life.

Not all tiny houses are designed for year-round use

However, it is worth being careful here. There are many tiny houses on the market that may look similar in appearance, but their construction and insulation can be very different.

You shouldn't choose a small house based solely on its appearance or price per square meter.

Cube Houses are manufactured under controlled conditions in our factory, and depending on the customer's wishes, we can manufacture the house with finished interior finishes or as a box solution.

The client also does not have to limit themselves to one specific standard solution. The layout, finish, and various details can be adapted to how the house will be used in the future.
